New Music Tuesday: The Blessed Unrest – Sara Bareilles

16 Jul

Sara Bareilles has released her third full-length record entitled The Blessed Unrest (pronounced blest). In contrast to her previous records Little Voice (Love Song, Gravity, Fairytale) and Kaleidoscope Heart (King of Anything, Gonna Get Over You, Uncharted), this record displays a different sound for Sara’s music. Despite the more experimental and electronic sounds (think Radiohead, or St. Vincent) of ‘Satellite Call’ and ‘Cassiopeia’,  Sara’s familiar soulful voice and heart-felt lyrics shine through. The tracks on this record seem more philosophical, existential, and darker than her previous records. The songs have themes of mortality, loss, and strength.  There are also some catchy and cute love songs like the adorable ‘I Choose You’, and the get up off your feet and dance, ‘Little Black Dress’. This record has a song for everyone; every Sara Bareilles fan I’ve talked to have embraced the new sound. Personally, I have fallen in love with the song ‘Chasing The Sun’. It has been added to my list of top favorite songs… EVER. iTunes streamed the record a week before it’s release and it has been on repeat for a week. I love it and I know you will too. Here, take a listen. I promise you’ll love it.

here is my favorite track on the record:

Show Review // Sara Bareilles: I Just Want You

13 May

Hey readers! (or well… Anna & maybe 5 other people if I’m lucky. haha)

Sara Bareilles is in the middle of her Brave Enough Tour. She is traveling the country (and Canada) playing solo- just her, some guitars, a ukulele, a piano, and a harmonium  It’s been a great treat for everyone who can make it out to a show. This is not really a show review… but rather, a ‘new’ song introduction. When she was in Boston, Sara played one of my favorites of her unreleased tracks. It’s beautiful, and I thought I would share it with you. I’m sorry the video quality is terrible; I was zoomed in. The audio is great though!
